Child Protective Services (CPS) and Concurrent/Domestic Violence (CDV) Reports to the Department for Community Based Services


Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky has collated data from the Department of Community Based Services and is making files available to KPA members.

Other data facts for Calendar Year 2018 include:

• 56,286 CPS & CDV reports met criteria for investigation or assessment in 2018 with a total of 84,595 children involved in those reports.

• 32,408 children were involved in the 16,654 reports found to be substantiated or in need of services in 2018.

• Neglect is the most common form of maltreatment, with 24,556 children involved in incidents of neglect.

• Substance abuse was documented as a risk factor in 66% of the reports with a finding of substantiation or services needed.

• Family violence was documented as a risk factor in 42% of the reports with a finding of substantiation or services needed.

• Mental health concerns were documented as a risk factor in 44% of the reports with a finding of substantiation or services needed.

• 46% of children in substantiated or services needed reports were age 5 or younger.

• The number of children substantiated or in need of services for physical abuse was 5,354.

• The number of children with a substantiated report for sexual abuse was 2,273.

• The number of children substantiated or in need of services for emotional injury was 225.
