Ashland Daily Independent – Editor

The Daily Independent seeks an experienced, innovative editor for our top newsroom leadership position in the newsy region of northeast Kentucky.

The editor is responsible for news and opinion content in the seven-day morning newspaper and on the paper’s website, working with a newsroom staff of 14.

Candidates need a strong management background, editorial writing skills, entrepreneurial print and digital credentials, and the ability to coach the staff to do superior journalism, including major public service projects and watchdog reporting.

The Daily Independent emphasizes local news, features, sports, photo and video journalism in line with the paper’s mission to serve readers with content that they want, need and value.

Ashland is located on the south bank of the Ohio River in the location where Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia meet. The region’s metropolitan statistical area has a population of 290,000. The city is home to a satellite campus for Morehead State University and Ashland Community and Technical College. Marshall University is 20 minutes away in Huntington, West Virginia.

This is a 40-hour full-time position which includes early morning and weekend hours. This key position requires a self-starter, and some weekend and night work is required on a rotating basis. The Register is located in Madison County, 25 miles south of Lexington.
