Let’s try this again: If you haven’t registered for the KPA Contests, time is running out

Repeat after me: The deadline to enter the 2017 KPA News and Advertising Contests is October 19 at 5 p.m. There will be no extension, repeat, no extension, repeat, no extension.

Got the message yet? Some of you have, most of you have not.

The FIRST step is getting your newspaper’s News and Ad departments registered to enter the contests. It takes maybe five minutes?

If you wait to the last minute to register, and I know some of you will try that at 4 p.m. on October 19, you’ll not make the deadline.

So go ahead now and get started.

Everything you need to know about the 2017 KPA News and Advertising Contests, and everything you need to get started is available now and waiting for you at www.newspapercontest.com/kentucky

The first thing you MUST do is register because you can’t get anywhere else in the system until that process is complete. And it’s painless, takes a couple of minutes and then the system will send you a confirmation email that the registration was successful and here’s what you need to do next.

The Association Code for KPA is KYCONTEST and it is case sensitive. You’ll see an area on the registration form to enter that.

Once you get registered and have been confirmed, you can see the contest rules for the News Contest and for the Advertising Contest.

So go ahead and get started now with the registration. And remember the email address and Password you’re using on the registration page. You need to share that with other staff members so there’s only one registration per newspaper for NEWS, one registration per newspaper for ADVERTISING.

The categories are the same but there have been adjustments in the Weekly and Daily divisions. The system automatically generates the divisions for Weeklies and Dailies based on the 2016 Statements of Ownership.

When you register — and you want to go ahead and do that the now — it will show what division your newspaper is entered in. If that appears to be wrong, let me know immediately.

The fee remains $7 per entry but there is no longer a $10 per newspaper fee.

Here are the Circulation Divisions that will be applicable to both contests:

Class 1: Certified circulation of 2,400 or less

Class 2: Certified circulation of 2,401 to 3,700

Class 2: Certified circulation of 5,001 to 14,999

Class 3: Certified circulation of 15,000 or more
