NAM Singers give command performance

Well, ok, “command” might be too strong. Perhaps just NAM Singers perform would suffice.

A small group of Newspaper Association Managers have been singing at the NAM Friday night banquet for probably the last 20 years. The songs are all popular tunes but rewritten to incorporate the newspaper industry into the lyrics.

At the Philadelphia Convention last week the Singers performed ‘The Hadacol Boogie,’ and the first one to the tune of ‘When The Saints Go Marching In.’ The lyrics were written by Teresa Thompson, who also served as the accompanist. Performing as this year’s version of the NAM Singers were Betsy Edwards, Virginia Press Association; Lynne Lance, National Newspaper Association; yours truly; Steve Nixon, Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association; Dennis Merrill, Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association; Doug Anstaett, Kansas Press Association; and George White, New Jersey Newspapers Association.
