Special Election underway in District 13

Kim Woods

KPA Bylaws require that when a person is elected vice president of the organization, a Special Election is required to fill that person’s KPA Board seat, if he/she is an elected director.

Kim Woods, vice president for advertising of HL Media/The Lexington Herald-Leader, has been the District 13 representative. But her election last week as 2018 KPA Vice President meant the district seat is vacant and a special election is required to fill the remainder of the term. The District 13 term ends in January, 2020.

So we’re in the process of accepting nominations in District 13. Letters have been sent to each publisher in the district, comprised of Anderson, Bourbon, Fayette, Franklin, Harrison, Nicholas, Scott and Woodford counties. The deadline for nominations is Monday, February 12 and if more than one person is nominated, there will be an election by ballot after February 12.

Bylaws stipulate that to be eligible, a nominee must live and work full-time in the district for a KPA member newspaper.

Publishers in those eight counties should have received a letter and nomination form this week.
