Two Special elections on the horizon; Dave Eldridge leaves Richmond Register, KPA Board

We were already in the process of preparing paperwork for a Special Election in District 13 and now there’s a second one about to begin. That will happen for District 14.

Last month, Catherine Boone, general manager of the Frankfort State Journal, announced she was leaving the Capital City to accept the publisher’s position in Vicksburg MS. The move is expected in early June and opens up the District 13 Board seat. The term for District 13 is through January 2020.

District 13 includes Anderson, Bourbon, Fayette, Franklin, Harrison, Nicholas, Scott and Woodford counties.

Monday, David Eldridge announced he has resigned as publisher of the Richmond Register and is resigning his post as District 14 Board member. David has already been full circle once, working his way up to KPA President in 2002. He will remain as a Past President representative on the KPA Legal Defense Fund Committee. Eldridge had been serving as publisher of the Richmond Register, London Sentinel-Echo and Corbin Times Tribune until a couple of weeks ago when Mark Walker took over as publisher and ad manager at London and Corbin. The current term for District 14 is through January 2022.

District 14 encompasses Boyle, Clark, Estill, Garrard, Jessamine, Lincoln, Madison, Mercer and Powell counties.

The publisher of each full member newspaper in the respective districts should have received a KPA letter and Special Election nomination form. Deadline for nominations is Tuesday, May 28. If two or more people are nominated, we will then conduct a vote of the members in the district. If only one person is nominated in a district, that person will automatically be elected to serve the remainder of the term.
