Job Functions

Full-time Frankfort-based position manages association’s monthly magazine, the Kentucky School Advocate, which encompasses mapping of editorial content, conducting interviews and research, composing stories, and copy editing. Serves as the primary writer for organizational communications efforts. Assists with creation of content across multiple channels, from print publications to social media/web content. Serves as copy editor for organization’s publications, collateral materials and external communications. Monitors local, state and national news sources for relevant trends and topics in education news. Contributes to team discussion and execution of strategic communications plan.

Job Requirements

A minimum of a Bachelors’ degree in journalism, communications or related field. At least three years of professional experience in news/journalism or other communications-based industry. Strong writing and editing skills required. Must have experience writing across multiple channels – print, social media, web, etc. Candidates who are knowledgeable about public education preferred. Must be able to gather information, research and write multiple stories under deadline. Must demonstrate an attention to detail and an ability to collaborate within a team environment.
