Contest judgings by state press associations are reciprocal agreements. Kinda like “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours.”
But in this case, it’s “you judge our contests, we’ll judge yours.”
And that’s where we stand this year with the Maine Press Association. It’s the first time KPA has ever judged or been judged by the Maine newspapers.
Currently, 46 KPA newspaper staff members are about to start the process of judging Maine’s two contests. They’ll have up to three weeks to complete their assignments. Those 46 represent 32 Kentucky newspapers.
Thanks from KPA to the 46 Kentucky representatives who are starting to help with the Maine Press Association contests. Just a reminder to be watching your email for information about accessing the MPA entries with instructions and what you’ll need to do.
In late October, it’s Maine’s turn as its newspapers will start in on the KPA News and Advertising contests. They, too, will be given about three weeks to complete their assignments, in time for KPA to get the results prepared and then announced at the 2020 KPA Winter Convention. The current schedule is for the KPA Advertising contest awards to be on Thursday evening, January 23, with the KPA News contest awards announced Friday evening, January 24.
Publishers, editors and ad managers will be receiving next week a link to the KPA contest website and we will begin accepting entries for both contests at that time. Newspapers have until Friday, October 18, at 4:30 p.m. (Eastern) to submit their entries.
And all of you be watching next week as the KPA contest website is operational for your entries.
