Another Special Election and again in District 4

Sam Terry, Jobe Publishing

We thought, with emphasis on “thought,” that Special Elections for 2018 were over with. I think at last count we were at eight elections since the end of the 2018 Winter Convention. They at least slowed down with none over the last six or seven weeks.

But now we’re in the process again.

Sam Terry, editor of the Barren County Progress and some other Jobe Publishing newspapers, was elected to fill the District 4 Board seat in late March. That seat became vacant when Jeff Jobe was elected Vice President of KPA/KPS.

But word came this week that Sam’s employment status was changing, necessitating that we have yet another Special Election.

Publishers/general managers of each member newspaper in the district will be receiving a letter that includes a nomination form. The district includes Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonton, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson and Warren counties. To be eligible, an individual must be a full-time employee of a full member newspaper in the district for which he/she is nominated.

The deadline for nominations is Monday, June 11, and if need be, we’ll then sent a ballot to each publisher/general of the member newspapers. If two or more people are nominated, we’ll be sending the ballot. If only one person is nominated, that individual will be considered elected by the district and will serve through January, 2020, when the current term expires for District 4.

Letters with a nomination form were mailed from KPA on Thursday so they should be arriving on the publisher’s/general manager’s desk soon.
