Article published in Journalism History and now Melony Shemberger is looking for info on the Women’s Press Club of Kentucky

Dr. Melony Shemberger

Dr. Melony Shemberger, assistant professor of journalism and mass communications at Murray State University, had a research article published in the spring 2018 issue of the Journalism History, a top academic journal in media history.

Her article is titled “Breaking News, Breaking Barriers: A Look at Clare Reckert’s Business Reporting in The New York Times.” Reckert, in her storied 44-year reporting career in The Times, was a champion for gender equality in a male-dominated business.

Her research on Reckert was supported early in the process by a Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award.

Shemberger is looking to launch a new research project about the Woman’s Press Club of Kentucky, which was founded in 1890 but vanished, likely after World War I started when other women’s press clubs were suspending meetings.

If anyone has any information or leads about the Women’s Press Club of Kentucky, please email Shemberger at
