And now the judging begins!
The deadline for entering the 2019 KPA Advertising and News contests was October 18 and after all the entries were accounted for, there was an overall increase in entering this year’s contest.
While the ad contest was down four entries with 833 compared to last year’s 837, the news contest has rebounded from a downturn and shows 223 more entries than in 2018. There were 2,790 entries for this year’s News Contest, compared to 2,567 last year.
Income had to increase as well, then, with a total of $25,361 this year compared to ’18s $23,828.
The contest now moves to the judging process with members of the Maine Press Association about to receive their assignments to complete the process online. The judges will have until about Thanksgiving to get their categories finished and returned.
The KPA Advertising Contest awards banquet will be Thursday, January 23, at the Hilton Inn in downtown Lexington. A reception will be held at 6 p.m. with the banquet getting underway at 7 p.m.
That same time frame is in place for the KPA News Contest awards banquet the following night, Friday, January 24. That will be the closing event on the 2020 KPA Winter Convention.
