Former KPA Board member Loretta Tackett dies unexpectedly


Loretta Tackett, 48, who served on the KPA/KPS Board of Directors from 2005 to 2008, passed away Thursday, October 20. She had been a reporter for the Paintsville Herald, Pikeville Appalachian News Express, and the Louisville Courier-Journal and had served as editor of the Williamson (WV) News. At the time of her death, she was assisting KPA with the Kentucky Press News Service.

Born March 11, 1968 in Pike County, she was the daughter of Barbara Carol Skeens of East Point, KY and the late Marvin Tackett. Loretta is survived by her companion of 17 years, David Mosley. In addition to her mother and companion, Loretta is survived by one son: William (Deni Brooke) Blackburn of Little Point, KY; two daughters: Fallon (Aaron) Kilgore of Morehead, KY and Taylor Mosley (Dr. Parker) Banks of Sharkey, KY; brothers & Sisters: Lucas Tackett (Sherry Hall) of Prestonsburg, KY, Mervin (Marty) Tackett of Meta, KY, Micky (Tabatha) Tackett of Dana, KY, Oliver (Dixie) Tackett of Coon Creek, KY and Wendy (Douglas) Fugate of Martin, KY; grandchildren: Carigan Blackburn, Kyleigh Jarrell, Conor Jarrell, Karlie Blackburn, Kadence Jarrell & Alaina Kilgore. She was preceded in death one sister: Jennifer Tackett. Loretta will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
