Four current elected members of the KPA Board of Directors have been nominated to serve as Vice President of the organization for 2018. Kim Woods, who was elected VP during the KPA Winter Business Meeting, resigned her position with the Lexington Herald-Leader soon thereafter and gave up the vice presidency position as well.
Persons qualified in the Bylaws to be elected Vice President were notified of the opportunity to be nominated. Bylaws stipulate that to be eligible to serve as Vice President, a person must be or must have been an elected Board member or must have served three consecutive years as a State At-Large Board member.
The nomination deadline was Friday, February 19 and the four nominated were:
• Dennis Brown, publisher, the Lewis County Herald, Vanceburg, and District 8 Board member
• Regina Catlett, co-publisher, the Sebree Banner/Sturgis News, and District 3 Board member
• Jeff Jobe, publisher, Jobe Publishing Inc.,, and District 4 Board member
• Jeff Moreland, publisher, Central Kentucky News Journal/Springfield Sun and District 12 Board member
Letters were mailed Thursday, February 22, to the publisher/general manager of all KPA full member newspapers. The letter included a ballot containing the name of each of the four.
The deadline for voting is Friday, March 2 and the person elected will take office immediately. Since each is an elected Board member, Bylaws require that a person elected vice president shall give up their elected Board seat. A special election will then be held in the district of the person elected vice president.
