The Kentucky Press Association Board of Directors has voted to recommend Jay Nolan, publisher of The Mountain Advocate in Barbourville to serve as KPA Vice President in 2017. The action came during the board’s Fall Board Retreat last week at Green Turtle Bay.
The KPA Nominating Committee, chaired by KPA Past President Rick Welch, interviewed four individuals who had been nominated as a VP candidate and brought the recommendation to the full Board. It was approved and now goes to the full membership of the association before Jay officially is elected Vice President.
The membership vote will be done by proxy later this year through a letter and ballot mailed to the publisher of each full member newspaper.
Following that vote by the board, the Nominating Committee recommended Kim Woods, vice president of advertising of the Lexington Herald-Leader be elected Treasurer of KPA for 2017. Her nomination was unanimously approved by the board. The vote on the treasurer’s position is not taken to the full membership as it requires only of a vote of the KPA Board to be official. Kim will become treasurer of KPA at the close of the 2017 KPA Winter Convention. If Jay is elected Vice President by the membership, he would begin serving in that capacity at the end of the convention as well.
