From Jay Nolan, Publisher, The Mountain Advocate (and 2019 KPA President)
After 11 years leading the Advocate, it’s time for me to step aside and let others in our organization expand their wings!
I can pass the torch with a clear conscience because Charles Myrick is doing such a good job as the Managing Editor of this newspaper. He and all his crew at the Advocate are fully committed to serving this community with high quality, professional journalism. Plus, he will have the full support from our record-setting ad manager, Tim Terrell. So, I know the Advocate will continue to be a strong voice for Barbourville and Knox County.
Now, Charles will report directly to our new Chief Operations Officer (COO), Glenn Gray. Glenn and I have known each other and worked together for almost 30 years. He knows Eastern Kentucky well, and understands every aspect of the newspaper business.
Having our eight different publications report to one person should help us coordinate resources and respond more quickly to changes in our industry, and to improve our breaking news coverage.
Much of my time as the CEO and majority owner of Nolan Group Media will now be focused on finding revenue opportunities to keep community journalism alive and well in all our markets throughout Eastern Kentucky.
My goal is to expand our corporate resources and impact. I will also continue promoting this industry as President of the Kentucky Press Association.
So, while others will now be more visible locally, Knox County and The Mountain Advocate will always be “on my radar.”
After all, some of the most memorable people, stories, and challenges of my career are from here. As always, our goal remains to better serve you, our subscribers, readers, and advertisers. I hope you will reach out to Charles, Tim, Glenn, or me anytime you have a good that. As always, we want to know what you think!
