KPA Board approves Online Newspaper applications for Linknky and Owensboro Times

At its Thursday, July 28 meeting, the Kentucky Press Association approved applications for membership of two Online Newspapers. Applications had been received earlier in July for Link nky (https://linknky.com/) and the Owensboro Times (https://www.owensborotimes.com/).

Online Newspapers have been a part of KPA membership for several years but previously were limited to Associate Member Newspaper status. That changed two years ago when the Board gave Online Newspapers full member benefits. That means those publications have voting privileges, can use the KPA Freedom of Information hotline and also can enter the contests.

To be eligible for membership, an Online Newspaper must meet eight criteria to be considered.

• must have been published for the previous 12-month period

• must be updated no less than one time each week

• must be principally devoted to the dissemination of original local or general news and other news content, with a minimum of 25 percent of overall contest

• must be available to the general public on the World Wide Web

• must not serve primarily as a platform to promote the interest and/or opinions of a special interest group, individual or cause

• must have a known Kentucky-based office of publication, open to the public, where business or publication is transacted, have a local telephone number and must include contact information in each updated publications

• must abide by copyright laws

For www.linknky.com, Lacy Starling is listed as publisher; Michael Monks is editor; and Mark Collier is ad director.

The Owensboro Times application lists Jason Tanner as publisher; Ryan Richardson as editor; and Jana Boswell as ad director.
