Patti Cross attended an auction in the pre-pandemic days and came away with a photo of the Kentucky Press Association convention in 1923. The photo is dated June 4, and shows a large crowd of KPA members gathered at what was then called Western Kentucky State Normal School and Teachers College. Of course, that’s the modern day Western Kentucky University.
Al Cross and Patti thought it appropriate for KPA to have the photo, now 98 years old.
Of course, we can’t identify anyone in the photo but if you know of someone in the newspaper business in 1923, chances are they are probably in the picture.
In those days, it was custom for members to catch the train to wherever the convention was going to be so we imagine most all of these folks rode trains from across the state. The picture was credited to “Photo by Franklin, Bowling Green. KY”
