KPA Associates Division member, LG&E /KU Energy, LLC has been named a finalist for the 2019 Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest recognition given by the Department of Defense (DoD) to employers for their exceptional support of members of the National Guard and reserve. The announcement was made by Philip Miller, state chairman of the Kentucky Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), which runs the annual award program for DoD.
The company is one of 30 finalists for the national award. Fifteen winners are expected to be announced in mid-June. More than 2,400 nominations were made.
System-wide, LG&E/KU Energy has a long-standing reputation within the communities it serves as not only a “military friendly” employer of reservists and veterans, but also as an advocate for military families and veteran service organizations, Miller said. Another company-wide program supports the preparation and contribution of “care packages” to active duty service members, Guardsmen or Reservists who are family members of company employees, while also conducting events to support military families, he explained.
ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the Reserve Components through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. It also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between service members and their employers. Kentucky’s ESGR committee is staffed by volunteers throughout the state with a limited fulltime staff at its headquarters in Frankfort.
