Meet Dennis Brown: KPA Vice President candidate for 2022

Dennis Brown

Dennis is a lifelong resident of Lewis County and 1984 graduate of Morehead State University, having earned a BA in communications.

He and his father formed Brown Communications, Inc. in 1984 and purchased WKKS Radio in Vanceburg. He continues to serve as president and general manager.

In 1987 he became affiliated with The Lewis County Herald and in 1991 became publisher. He manages the day to day operations and, as is the case with many community newspapers, performs many of the duties from advertising sales to covering school board meetings.

He has served as Treasurer of the Kentucky Press Association for 2020 and 2021 and has held the District 8 KPA Board seat for the past several years.

He and his wife, Tammy, are members of Vanceburg Christian Church where Dennis serves on the Praise Team.

He additionally serves his community as Deputy Director of Lewis County Emergency Management and is a special deputy with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office where he serves as photographer and public information officer, among other duties.

He actively participates in many community organizations and frequently promotes the significance of community newspapers to young people through school classroom visits.

Dennis and Tammy have five children and seven grandchildren. The couple reside on a small farm near Vanceburg with their dachshunds, Abby and Winston.

He is a Kentucky Colonel and has received numerous awards in news writing and photography.

In their spare time, the Browns enjoy traveling and visiting new places.
