Middlesboro seeks reporter to cover local news, features

The Middlesboro News, a multi-weekly newspaper with a robust website in southeastern Kentucky, is looking for an energetic, motivated reporter to cover local news and features.

Middlesboro is located on the Kentucky/Tennessee border, and features beautiful scenery with many opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors in some of the region’s scenic state parks.

We are seeking a reporter with a solid work ethic, sound news judgment and a desire to produce top-notch journalism. The position will be focused on local news and general assignments from government to crime to features. Our general expectation is 10 bylined stories per week, but enterprise and investigative reporting are encouraged and will sometimes result in fewer bylines.

The reporter will be asked to take photos for stories and contribute content to affiliated publications, including occasional work for the Claiborne Progress, based in Tazewell, Tennessee, just minutes from Middlesboro. A person who can work independently, with great organizational and time-management skills will flourish in this position.

The ideal candidate would possess a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, knowledge of AP style, experience using WordPress and photography skills and familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite, including inDesign and Photoshop.

The Middlesboro News offers a competitive salary and benefits. We are an equal opportunity employer, offering our employees a chance to flourish and a team atmosphere that thrives on journalistic excellence.

Interested candidates should email materials — a resume, cover letter and three to five examples of your best work — to Regional Editor Jeff Moreland at editor@middlesboronews.com.
