There have been roughly 163 pieces of legislation pre-filed for the 2017 legislative session. This only means that since the last session ended, legislators have had legislation drafted they have agreed to sponsor and some of the bills had hearings during the interim.
But come Tuesday, January 3, that doesn’t mean diddly. When the gavel comes down Tuesday around noon, the process starts all over again. Legislators will have to introduce their bills and start through the committee process just as if the bill had never seen the light of day.

The most recent 30-day session, 2015, ended with 757 bills filed for consideration, 548 of those in the House.
