Old copies of the Russell County News featured on one room’s walls
The new Russell County Public Library opened this week and one of the rooms features old copies of the Russell County News. A library staff member told me they pulled pages from the bound volumes of the Russell County News to decorate one wall in the conference room. The library had bound volumes of the News from 1939 to 1968 so the pages shown represent those years. But the library didn’t lose access to any of the pages since all of the past issues of the newspaper are digitized and available at the library.
An ingenious idea, so resourceful. The originator deserves prolonged applause as do decision-makers endorsing such a valuable display offering historic attention, enlightenment, enjoyment and reminders of days gone by. Other community libraries might well “borrow” this concept because of the interest it surely will generate from viewers of all ages.
