Jim Ward, publisher of the Marshall County Tribune-Courier from 2001 until mid-2007, died in April after a long illness. Originally from Kansas, Jim spent much of his life in the newspaper business at papers in the Midwest and southern U.S.
Ironically, the last two papers he managed where both named The Marshall County Tribune-Courier, one in Benton in Kentucky and one in Lewisburg, TN.
“Current and former Trib employees who worked with Jim and Glenda, his widow, remember them both fondly,” said Venita Fritz, now general manager of the paper in Benton. “I’ve heard many who worked with them comment what a warm, family-like atmosphere they created among their team of employees.”
Bill Cunningham, former circulation manager for The Citizen-Advertiser and the Bourbon County Citizen, died May 6 in Lexington. He was with the newspapers for more than 23 years, before retiring in March, 2009.
He delivered both publications, helping to unload them when the issues arrived from the Cynthiana Democrat plant and then taking care of delivering to vendors and handling delivery of inserts as well.
