Pew Center study on newspapers as ‘the’ news source and quoted by HB 195 sponsor

In the presentation of House Bill 195 on Wednesday, and in an earlier committee meeting, sponsor Rep. Jerry Miller said newspapers are read by only 15 percent of the public, according to a Pew Center study.

Well making a statement like that got my blood pressure up and made me curious. So I contacted Michael Barthel, a senior researcher with the Pew Center, to see if Rep, Miller’s circulation figures were accurate. You can see on the chart below that for 2018, social media (20 percent) ranked just above print newspapers (16 percent).
