Public Notice Website’s success depends on newspapers participation

Give it a look:

This website was the project of 2011 KPA President Jamie Sizemore. We were needing one site where the public, legislators, public agencies and reporters could go to to find out what local public governments are up to. Of course, there’s another way by subscribing to the 145 Kentucky newspapers qualified to publish public notices. Or just go to and search to see what notices have been published in newspapers.

It takes minimal effort by newspapers. Simply send one copy of each edition to NewzGroup and the notices are then scraped, put into a Word searchable format and posted. Newspapers only have to send a copy to NewzGroup and the rest of the work is done there. Newspapers qualified have been sent the Upload Instructions and credential specific to that newspaper. It takes little time to send each issue to NewzGroup. And with the number of newspapers sending their issues, it can be up to a two-day delay before those notices are posted.

It’s a service that’s sponsored by KPA with no additional cost to public agencies or the public. Public agencies do pay for the notices to be put in the paper but the website posting has no additional charge. The public can access the site without a fee but can have a “Smart Search” where the system searches for key words of the person’s choosing and then sends the notices to the individual. There is a subscription fee for the “Smart Search” aspect.

We’ve recently been in contact with some 25 newspapers that have not been sending their issues to NewzGroup and asked them each to make a concerted effort to get in the habit of sending each issue to the company. NewzGroup needs the entire copy uploaded so that it can check all pages for any notices. Delinquent property listings and election ballots are not typically published in the classified section so NewzGroup needs the entire issue to check other pages, sections that could contain qualified public notices.

A Message to the Public

Here, in one place, you now have access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to statewide notices about hearings, advertisements for bids, financial reports, adoption of ordinances, and other government activities legally requiring public notice. This database is not a substitute for the official publication that is required by law. You will still find those notices in your local newspaper.

How to use: Simply input what kind of public notice or legal notice that you are looking for. Then choose from the drop down menus file dates, state, county, city, and newspaper (if known). Last hit the search button and your results will be displayed below.

Please note: This website is uploaded daily with legal notices and public notices published in Kentucky newspapers. Due to the time sensitive nature of the material contained on this website, notices over three months old are automatically removed. More and more Kentucky newspapers are coming online; if the information you are looking for is not listed here, please keep checking back with us.
