Because it’s approaching that time of the year and this year you better be ready.
By August 1 you will have all the materials about the two KPA Contests — Advertising Excellence in Kentucky Newspapers – 2017 and News Excellence in Kentucky Newspapers – 2017. And from that date, you will have until October 19 to have everything gathered, coordinated and ready to upload into the same system we used last year.
The only changes are in the circulation divisions for Weeklies and for Dailies. And, of course, the contest period dates. That’s the simple part — it’s for all issues between October 1, 2016, and September 30, 2017.
The contest software shuts down the entry gate at midnight on October 19 so either you will have your entries uploaded by then and you’ll be prepared to tell your employees why you didn’t make the deadline.
As for the circulation breaks:
• Multi Weeklies are forever — those newspapers published two or three times per year
• Associate Member Newspapers are forever — those newspapers without a periodicals class mailing permit that have joined KPA as an AMN
• Student Publications — members of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Press Association division. There are two entry divisions — for colleges/universities up to 10,000 enrollment and for college/universities with enrollment of 10,001 and Above.
Weekly 1 – Up to 2,400 Paid Circulation
Weekly 2 – 2,401 to 3,700 Paid Circulation
Weekly 3 – 3,701 and Above Paid Circulation
Daily Divisions (based on Sunday circulation if the newspaper has one)
Daily 1 – Up to 5,000 Paid Circulation
Daily 2 – 5,001 to 15,000 Paid Circulation
Daily 3 – 15,001 and Above Paid Circulation
We are in the process of getting all the materials updated, to reflect the circulation divisions above, the changes in dates on what’s eligible and we’ll have that posted online prior to August 1.
There are no changes in the categories so if you remember them from last year, or probably from a few years before that, you can start gathering your entries and be ready when we get the info to you in about six weeks.
