Slowly, very slowly, but surely newspapers registering for KPA News, Advertising contests

Another plea Thursday for newspapers to get registered for one or both of the KPA contests — news and advertising — resulted in 14 more papers added to the list. Now we’re up to 29 newspapers indicating they plan on entering when the entry deadline hits on Friday, October 15.

Registering takes less time than starting up your computer and once the form is completed, you’re all set to start sorting from issues between October 1, 2020, and September 30, 2021. Those are the publication dates eligible for news, ads, photos and design categories in the 2021 News and Ad contests.

Here’s access to the registration materials and a little more information:

Go to  www.newspapercontest.com/kentucky

When you do access www.newspapercontest.com/kentucky, first, READ the basic instructions and please read closely the very first line. It gives you the “Association Code” that you must enter when registering.

Second, you must register. Even if you’ve done so in previous years, you have to register for this contest. Again, read the FIRST LINE in number 1 for the “Association Code.” You will need that in registering.

Then go to the Contest Rules. You’ll need that to see what the divisions are for Weekly, Daily, Multi-Weekly and Student Publications. Your division is pre-assigned based on frequency and for Weekly and Daily Newspapers, your last circulation report. If you feel your newspaper is assigned to the wrong division, email me immediately to determine if there is a mistake in pre-assignment.

We have changed the circulation divisions for weekly newspapers and on the daily side, we’re offering just two divisions — up to 10,000 and 10,001 and above. The multi-weekly division grew by several newspapers as some dailies switched from a minimum of four publication days a week to only two or three days per week.
