State Journal switches to delivery through the mail

The State Journal’s subscribers will now get local news delivered right to their home mailboxes.

“We are pleased to partner with the U.S. Postal Service for delivery of The State Journal,” said Steve Stewart, the newspaper’s publisher. “This partnership will allow seamless same-day delivery to customers. Whenever subscribers get their mail, they will receive that day’s edition of The State Journal.

“The postal service is the most efficient way to deliver the newspaper because its letter carriers are already stopping at every household in Frankfort and Franklin County. This change will allow us to better serve our customers, maximize our investment in local news coverage and utilize a valuable tool to grow readership. Most of our subscribers will receive the newspaper earlier than they did previously.”

Mail delivery began with today’s edition.

State Journal carriers, who worked as independent contractors, will receive transition pay during September.

“We appreciate all of our newspaper carriers,” Stewart said. “We are working with each of them to make it a smooth transition for all involved.”

The State Journal, a longtime afternoon daily newspaper, will now be available in grocery stores, other businesses and sidewalk newsstands by 8 a.m. each day.

Readers will also get more timely coverage of Friday night high school sports and get a jump on weekend shopping as The State Journal’s Sunday edition has been converted to a Weekend edition that will be delivered on Saturdays.

“We appreciate all of our readers and will continue to place the highest priority on customer service and satisfaction,” Stewart said. “This change in delivery method will allow us to serve them more reliably. We appreciate the cooperation of the Frankfort Post Office, especially Officer in Charge Kirby Brown and Business Mail Entry Unit Technician Ed Redmon, in preparing for this change. They have bent over backward to help make this a smooth transition for all.”

Subscribers who have questions or concerns are encouraged to call The State Journal’s customer service desk at 502-227-4556.
