Two former Boston Globe columnists enjoying life with retired, some champions, thoroughbreds

You may not know Michael Blowen, former movie critic for the Boston Globe. Or his wife Diane White, a former Globe columnist. But perhaps you’re heard about their life after newspapers. They’re spending it on a 275-acre farm just a couple of miles outside of Georgetown.

As you leave Georgetown heading out toward I-64, you’re gonna pass Old Friends Farm. “Old Friends” because there you will find retired thoroughbreds, and many of them champions, roaming the pastures. Retired thoroughbreds at Old Friends include Silver Charm and War Emblem. Both won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness but fell just short of racing’s Triple Crown.

CBS Sunday Morning visited with Michael Blowen in a segment shown May 16.
