Visualizing COVID–19 Data with JavaScript, Observable, Vega; free to any journalist, student

The Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri is offering an online, two-day workshop on data journalism and offering to any journalist, students included. The webinar is free but you do have to register.

In this workshop, participants will learn how to do data journalism in Observable, a fast, free, cutting-edge coding environment that has taken the web by storm.

We’ll also introduce you to Vega, a visualization grammar that makes it easy for anyone to produce a wide variety of brilliant interactive charts with live data.

This two-day workshop is open to any journalist or student. You don’t need any prior experience working with code or data, though some knowledge of JavaScript will be helpful. There is no software to download or install. Just go to to create a free account, have a steady internet connection and attend on a computer.

Participants do NOT have to commit to watching the workshop both days. They may choose either day or both days if they wish.
